On the encouragement of my husband and son – both passionate model makers – I decided to give 3D figure painting a try. I used to watch from the sidelines as my husband worked on his airplane models, admiring his patience, thinking I’d probably eat all those tiny pieces before even managing to paint them.
But I gave it a shot! With a lot of guidance (and patience) from my husband, he let me experiment on a figure he printed a few months ago and accidentally broke off a detail at the end (it’s missing a spur), thinking I’d definitely ruin it and it would be perfect to start with. Once I got the face right, everything else just clicked into place and I didn’t eat a single detail of the figure!
Paints and brushes aren’t new to me – I still have a few tricks up my sleeve! However, I really struggled with the details and capturing different textures – a completely new challenge for me but I’m totally happy with how it turned out! We could have printed the spur later, but we didn’t, and honestly, it doesn’t matter.
Proud to say this is my first 1:10 scale ‘baby’ – not perfect, but definitely mine.
